SUMMARY:Camp Lug-A-Chug
DESCRIPTION:This is the weekend where we hike water up to the aid stations for the next week’s Volcanic 50K & 25K race. “Sounds terrible\, when do we leave?” It’s not terrible\, but it is hard work. We make it fun and feed you really well afterwards. \nWe camp around the Marble Mountain Sno Park lower lot area on Friday and Saturday nights\, hiking supplies up Saturday and Sunday. Join for one day or both. \nThere’s an optional way to compete too. We’ll weigh how much weight you carry up the mountain and the person who carries the most weight compared to their body weight each day wins a race entry. \nPlease register so we know how many are coming and how much food we’ll need. \n

DESCRIPTION:It’s been a minute\, or a few years\, since we’ve been able to bring the local running community together to kick off the race season. Go Beyond Racing and Trail Butter are thrilled to say the the Season Kickoff Party is back! \nAnd before you ask\, no\, Skyline Tavern is not reopened for business. But\, they are allowing this private party so it’s a great opportunity to hang out in an ol’ favorite watering hole\, with fellow runners\, while planning your 2023 races and adventures. \nThis party is a bit old school\, and by that we mean old west. It’s a chance to put on a cowboy (or cowgirl hat)\, show off a big belt buckle\, and pretend we’re all characters on Yellowstone. We’re providing drinks\, chili\, and cornbread. \nTrail Butter has a group hill run thang starting at 11:00. The drawing starts at 9:00 a.m. Pacific. \nThere’s a group run ahead of the drawing\, starting and finishing in the Skyline Tavern parking lot. It’s a 5.25-mile out-and-back down the Waterline trail and then west on Wildwood to Newton\, and back. You can go longer or shorter. Run departs at 7:30. SUMMARY:Camp Lug-A-Chug (formerly known as Sherpa Showdown)
DESCRIPTION:Some of the most fun you can have\, while working your butt off. The Camp Lug-A-Chug is the weekend before the Volcanic race and is the way we get the water into the remote aid stations. Join us for one day\, or both\, to hike water up the mountain. We camp out\, feed you after the hike\, and generally laugh til our bellies hurt as much as our glutes. And there’s a competitive aspect to it\, where the person who carries the most weight\, compared to their body weight\, wins a free entry into the race. \nThis event was previously known as Sherpa Showdown\, but is renamed to Camp Lug-A-Chug. Why? Two reasons. The first is that the word Sherpa refers to an ethnic group from an area in the Himalayas near the Nepal and Tibet border. That word has often mistakenly been used to refer to the porters who carry supplies for mountaineering expeditions\, and it is from this where we began calling this event the Sherpa Showdown. Secondly\, over the years\, this has turned into a weekend-long camping adventure with multiple trips lugging water up the mountain. After the 2021 weekend\, participant Trip suggested this new name and we loved it. DESCRIPTION:Want to carry a bunch of water on your back\, uphill? Heck yeah! The Sherpa Showdown has become almost as popular as the Volcanic race. This is the weekend when we hike water into the remote aid stations for the race. We’ll feed you well afterwards and we promise you’ll feel your butt muscles the next day. We play a little game too\, with a free race entry as the prize\, for the person who carries the most weight compared to their body weight. \nThis race can’t happen with the Sherpas\, so if you are looking for a way to get involved and have fun (really\, it is fun)\, put this on your calendar. You can help out one day or make a weekend of it and haul water with us both days. We’ll gather at the lower Marble Mountain Sno Park at 8:00 a.m. each morning and divy up the supplies to hike in. Bring a large backpack if you’ve got one (we have some loaners) and the snacks and water you’ll consume on the ~9 mile roundtrip hike. Trekking poles are very helpful too. \nWe’ll camp nearby Saturday night and everyone is welcome to find a spot and stay for an evening of storytelling and laughs and probably a little groaning about our sore muscles. \nPlease register (its free) here to help us know how many to expect. \nSign Up
