This post is for the moms out there. As runners, we all secretively want our kids to run, but of course we don’t want to push them into it. We want our children to find their ‘thing’, whatever it is, on their own.
One morning when I poked my head into my 7-year-old boys’ bedroom to tell them I was going for a quick run, Koh asked me when he could run with me. It took me by surprise but I quickly answered, “How about now?” We went out for 40-minutes together. We’d run until we saw a slug, and then walk to the next slug, and then run again. We had a great time together.
Go Beyond Racing is going to give you an opportunity to run a trail race with your kids for free. The Smith Rock Ascent 4-mile route runs up Misery Ridge (don’t be dissuaded by the name) to the top of the rock walls and then back along the river. It’s a great course, but not one you may want to send your youngster out on by themselves. But it’s perfect to run together.
Moms can register for the 4-mile race for free, when they register and pay for the 4-miler for a 12-years-or-younger son or daughter at the same time. Just use coupon code MomsFree at checkout.
We’d love to see a lot of moms at the race, with their families. We even have a free Kids Fun Run for the younger kiddos.
