Training for a race is tough. Squeezing in the longer runs can be really tough. With my schedule, I have to get up super early to get in my runs. It works for my family and me, but boy do I go to bed early at night – sometimes right after I put my kids to bed.
It seems to be easier to do when you have friends to run with; people that will hold you accountable and push you a little further or faster. Running in new and different places is another way to keep your training fresh. It’s too easy to get into a rut on the same route over and over again.
Go Beyond Racing hosts free training runs each monthly, leading up to many of our trail races. The runs cover part of the race course and are a nice way for people to experience the route before race day. We typically provide some aid too (thanks to our sponsor GU), giving runners one less thing to worry about.
We’ll run in Forest Park, the Columbia River Gorge, Smith Rock State Park, on the Pacific Crest Trail in Oregon and on the Loowit Trail around Washington’s Mt. St. Helens.
All our training runs and events are listed here. They are not restricted to people running the race where the training run occurs. We hope you can join us for a few.
